While much of Brook's work owes a debt to other directors such as Meyerhold, Stanislavski, Brecht and Grotowski, he has also fused these ideas to become one of the most ‘interesting' theatre practitioners today. Through practical work and discussion this course will discover the unique qualities of Brook's work and explore how the essence of these ideas can help students to develop their own productions. The course is suitable for those with all levels of experience.

  • Exploring Brook's techniques in key productions
  • Developing a theory – drawing the strands together
  • Practical exercises to clarify Brook's work as a director
  • Assessing how useful Brook's ideas are to a modern director/actor and applying these to contemporary texts and performance
