The revised National Curriculum in science has seen a shift of emphasis from content towards skills. This requires new ways of teaching, both of the skills required and of the traditional content. Pupils need to delve deeper into practical, enquiry and communication skills, and to consider social and cultural aspects, applications and relations to other disciplines. This course aims to make clear what will be needed, how to teach the skills required, and how to find useful source material.

  • Understand what skills need to be taught
  • Effectively teach scientific thinking skills
  • Develop your pupils' practical and enquiry skills
  • Encourage your pupils to communicate effectively
  • Build the social, cultural and cross-curricular aspects of the curriculum into your planning
  • Access useful source materials
