This course is designed for all teachers of A Level English Literature who wish to develop imaginative and effective approaches to set texts. It will explore practical ideas for helping students “articulate creative, informed and relevant responses to literary texts” (AO1). There will be an opportunity for delegates to work collaboratively to design teaching and learning activities which engage and stimulate students.

  • Effective strategies for teaching the novel: exploring narrative and the author’s relationship with the reader
  • Active approaches to drama texts
  • Helping students analyse structure, form and language (AO2) with reference to Shakespeare
  • How to make good use of critics and explore connections and comparisons between texts (AO3)
  • Helping students understand set texts in their context (AO4)
