The September 2019 framework brings the biggest changes to Ofsted inspection in a decade. This practical course will provide everything you need for lesson observers to provide accurate and reliable judgements of the quality of education, in line with the new Ofsted framework. A key focus is moving away from a ‘tickbox culture’ of observation to one that provides a holistic assessment of teaching quality.

  • Understand the key elements of the updated framework and handbook
  • Explore different approaches to observation, and when they can be best used
  • Develop clear and holistic judgements of the quality of teaching, based on Ofsted’s research evidence
  • Be able to engage with learners to get their feedback and review their work
  • Manage the administrative elements of an observation programme to ensure success
  • Learn how to give effective feedback to colleagues and to identify training needs
