This is an introductory course for all staff and volunteers working with children in schools and colleges. It is important that all staff understand the risks that children face when they become homeless, or if they are risk of homeless. In this course, you will learn how many people are homeless in the UK and some of the things that might make people more vulnerable to homelessness. We will consider what risks children may face when they become homeless and finally, what to do if you are worried about a family or a child being at risk of homelessness.  

All schools and colleges have clearly defined responsibilities in relation to child on child abuse. However, this form of abuse can manifest in a number of ways and it can be a very complicated issue and difficult to unpick. This course is designed to equip you with a thorough understanding of what child on child abuse is and what it looks like, as well as your responsibilities in relation to this type of abuse. You will finish the course with a refreshed understanding of the issue and three top tips for minimising child on child abuse in your school.

This course is designed to support SMHLs to conduct an audit of their mental health provision within their setting.  It will discuss the importance of auditing your provision and how to use this to identify and prioritise your settings needs for leading and developing your mental health strategy.  It will discuss the eights strands of the DfE learning outcomes highlighted with in the DfE guidance and look at evaluating these within your setting.  It will also look at how the audit will help as you move forward with action plans and the importance of reflecting on and measuring progress and impacts made.  This course will be of benefit of any Senior Mental Health Lead within SEND context, and anyone within their team supporting with the audit.

We will think about why some children may be more vulnerable to child sexual exploitation and consider the signs and symptoms you may notice if a child is being sexually exploited. We will learn about the responsibilities of school and college staff in relation to child sexual exploitation and talk about what you should do if you think a child is suffering, or is at risk of suffering, this type of abuse.

We will think about which children may be in need of early help and why some children with additional vulnerabilities may be more in need of help than others.
