There can be sense of bewilderment around all the different terms and names given to the diverse range of genders and sexualities. This course offers insight into the language that we use to describe ourselves and others.  

This short course for DSLs will look at the additional considerations needed to ensure the effective safeguarding of children with SEN and how to put these in place. The course will use the requirements of Keeping Children Safe in Education as a starting point and then consider how these need to be adapted to meet the needs of the most vulnerable pupils in both mainstream and specialist settings.

This is an introductory course for all staff and volunteers working with children in schools and colleges. This course will explore where mental health problems in young people might indicate that they are being abused or harmed. We will consider what abuse is, how children experiencing mental health issues may be more vulnerable to abuse and consider mental health as an indicator of harm. You will also learn what to do if you are concerned about the mental health or wellbeing of a child in your school. 

This is an introductory course for all staff and volunteers working with children in schools and colleges. It is important that all staff understand the risks that children face when they miss education. This course will consider why attendance is important, look at the risks that children face when they miss education and we will learn about school and local authority responsibilities to these children. We will also learn about factors that might cause a child to miss education and finally, what to do if you are worried about a child missing education.

Every school and college in England must have a Designated Safeguarding Lead. All staff, volunteers and those working on behalf of the school should be aware of who this is, understand the role of the Designated Safeguarding Lead and know how their role works alongside the DSL to keep children safe. In this course we will explore this important role in more detail, look at how the DSL works to keep children safe, what their responsibilities are and how they work with other agencies. We will also look at the safeguarding responsibilities of every member of staff so that you can feel confident in what to do if you are concerned about a child.

This is an introductory course for all staff and volunteers working directly with children in schools. This course will explain what fabricated or induced illness is and some of the ways that it might manifest. We will think about the triggers for this type of abuse and some of the ways that professionals working with children might be able to identify if a child is suffering fabricated or induced illness. We will learn about the responsibilities of school and college staff in relation to this issue and think about what you should do if you think a child is suffering, or is at risk of suffering, this type of abuse.

This is an introductory course for all staff and volunteers working directly with children in schools. This course will explain what private fostering is and will consider the legislative and statutory framework around private fostering. We will consider why some children may be privately fostered and the issues that private fostering can link to and then learn what Local Authorities and those working directly with children need to do to keep privately fostered children safe.
