Our Consultants
All of our consultants have held senior leadership positions in education (many are also registered inspectors and school improvement partners who are currently involved in school evaluation).
With the analytical skills to get to the heart of a brief and the experience to communicate and implement recommendations, our consultants are uniquely placed to fulfil the most challenging of action plans and to drive continued, sustainable improvement. Alternatively, action plans can be taken up by internal staff with occasional direction or guidance from the consultant.
The following are our key consultation areas:

Our recent consultancy work has included reviews of Local Authority special educational needs provision, inclusion advisor training in many Local Authorities, the overall direction and guidance of a pupil referral unit, subject leader guidance in schools where departments need support and general advisory work with clusters of schools.

Whole School Review

We have developed a new review programme which is designed to turn weaknesses into strengths, to build on good practice and to help schools to move from “good” to “outstanding”.

Allowing maximum flexibility, the modular format will underpin and extend schools’ ongoing performance and monitoring processes.

Schools can select any of the eight elements from the list below (individually or in combination) in the sequence which best meets their short or long term needs. Working through the programme will progressively increase schools’ capacity for sustained success.

The Review Modules

  1. Needs analysis: this in-depth analysis establishes the competency levels of staff in lesson observation technique and feedback. Consultants shadow Heads of Department and the Senior Leadership Team to gauge their effectiveness against Ofsted criteria and provide training where required.
  1. Mock Inspection: this inspection is carried out in line with the Ofsted framework. Verbal and written feedback will be given to the SLT.
  1. Departmental Review: the curriculum and all departmental documentation (self-evaluation and development planning) appropriate to leadership and raising standards are reviewed. Work scrutiny is undertaken, lesson observations are carried out and Heads of Department are shadowed.
  1. Lesson observation training for all managers: this includes feedback and training for senior leaders in all aspects of inspection.
  1. Leadership capacity: self-evaluation and School Improvement Plan: a thorough analysis of SEF quality and improvement planning relating to priorities is provided. Performance data is evaluated.
  1. Partnerships: discussions take place with stakeholders to ascertain the level of their involvement in the school and how much their input is taken into consideration.
  1. Developmental programme: as a result of the Departmental Review and the mock inspection, a CPD training plan is provided for further development for all relevant members of staff (support and teaching). This includes coaching and mentoring as required.
  1. Assessments: the process will provide formative and summative assessments both of departments and the senior team as well as a judgment of the overall effectiveness of the school.

Please contact us to discuss your current situation and we will work with you to formalise a review programme which meets your specific needs.

Subject Review

One of our most popular services is the independent evaluation of subject provision – either in a school or across a whole Local Authority.
As many of our highly-qualified consultants are registered inspectors, a subject evaluation provides schools with a unique opportunity to obtain a thorough, independent and actionable report in advance of an Ofsted inspection or following an inspection where significant weaknesses have been identified.
Our evaluation process focuses on strengths and weaknesses in:

  • standards of achievement
  • leadership and management
  • learning and teaching
  • curriculum provision
  • assessment
  • SMSC

At the end of each review a full report will identify the areas of good practice which can be shared and the areas of weakness which need to be tackled. This report also provides the means to generate continued and sustained improvement.
To find out more about subject reviews and how they can benefit your school or Local Authority, please contact us and we will be happy to help.

Leadership and Strategy

At times of change it can be difficult to know where to turn, what your first steps should be and what you can do to foster sustained improvement in your school. This is where our experienced consultants can help.

With their wide range of senior management and Local Authority experience our consultants can provide a complete service. They give advice on the strategy for key decisions and on project development, as well as providing recommendations, support and training for the leaders who are ultimately responsible for decision-making.

Here are some of the key areas where we can provide assistance:

  • Reviewing behaviour improvement strategies including BIP and inclusion procedures
  • Evaluating extended school provision – reviewing outcomes for different groups
  • Providing training and development in Assessment for Learning across Local Authorities and within schools
  • Reviewing current practice for recruitment arrangements within schools
  • Assisting schools with the self-evaluation process and preparation for Ofsted
  • Evaluating SEN provision and effectiveness
  • Evaluating headteacher appraisal

Whatever your concerns may be, the advice and support of our consultancy team can help you to turn your school around.
