This is a recording of a past session. Since the pandemic, we have seen an increase in the number of children displaying extreme behaviours. These are both highly distressing for the child but also difficult to manage and witness for all. In this webinar, we will work together to better understand how we can see the child as should never be defined by their behaviour. Now more than ever, we must connect with the child and look first to their strengths. We will also consider that for many of these children, school is a safe place to express their true feelings and sometimes these are displayed as extreme behaviours.  In this webinar, we will: 

• Discuss what extreme behaviours are  

• Explore why extreme behaviours may be displayed by children 

• How to identify and minimise the impact of a child’s triggers 

• Practical strategies to de-escalate challenging situations safely  

• How to recognise when we need to seek support in challenging situations 

This is a recording of a past webinar session. As a senior leader, you are likely called upon throughout the day to support staff to de-escalate in situations where a child is displaying an extreme behaviour. Many senior leaders are also finding that members of staff are asking for senior leadership support much earlier on or for situations that they once would have addressed themselves prior to the pandemic. In this webinar, we will consider: 

• How to respond to extreme behaviours as a senior leader: working with staff, the child and their parents/caregivers 

• How to promote teachers’ autonomy to address extreme behaviours to reduce the levels of escalation to SLT 

• Practical strategies to support staff to address a wider range of behaviours autonomously 

• Normalising asking for support when staff are struggling in a situation: Raising awareness of the Crisis Curve 

In this course, we will consider what Cyber Security is, why it is important within the school environment, the kinds of risks that you may encounter from different locations and how to do your best to protect both yourself and the school.
