Training for all levels of professionals, including those new to education and parents and carers. Aims to develop knowledge and confidence about how we learn to read and how we can use this knowledge to remove barriers to learning for all. Looking how to engage and motivate all learners to read including those with specific learning needs such as Dyslexia and those with more complex SEND. Strategies, ideas, and ways in are provided to get all learners reading now, using best practice research and classroom experience. 

This is the first of two courses on reading in further education. In this course we will be exploring many of the issues as to why students struggle with reading and/or comprehension and what we can do to support learners with a wide range of strengths and weaknesses. As well as numerous practical ideas the course provides an opportunity to reflect on current practise and share effective approaches with other practitioners.

This course aims to support secondary non-specialists to deliver RSHE with confidence and skill.   

This course will explore a range of strategies to help embed a strong emphasis of phonics within your setting. It will encompass the techniques and ideas previously explored within ‘Getting Started with Phonics’ and ‘Continuing with phonics’. The course will also support you with assessing pupils’ phonetic progress and preparation for the phonics screening in Year 1.

This course takes the PHSE Education Planning Framework for Pupils with Send and suggests ideas of sensory activities we can do to support this. Some of it is too abstract or irrelevant so it is important we plan for individuals in close consultation with their families and carers.

This course will build on the basic phonics and the progression of phonics to enable pupils to read by six. Strategies are explored for everyday practice to ensure that all pupils make good or better progress in phonics and early reading strategies.

This course contains an overview the essential knowledge spellers need to be taught to become confident and competent, independent writers. 

In this course you will consider how to create a culture and ethos in your school which promote respect and values diversity in order to have the best foundations for your mental health strategy to be situated on. You will need to consider how your school’s current policies and priorities can connect with your mental health strategy to ensure it has the maximum potential to be embedded meaningfully and systemically in your school.

During this course we explore a range of ideas for supporting teaching and learning in art and design in the primary school.

I would like to share with you some practical ideas for encouraging meaningful engagement with people with PMLD. These activities will enhance communication, interaction, curiosity, initiation and good mental wellbeing through having fun with our senses! Through the joint participation of party activities, it is possible to create a sense of awe and wonder, anticipation, excitement and reflection. This course would be suitable for anyone who spends time with people with PMLD and who is looking for some simple yet fun activities to initiate and enhance communication.

This course will identify the basics of phonics and how it helps pupils to read by age six.  Exploring key vocabulary used to unpick different elements of phonics, putting theory into practice and learning the initial strategies used to teach children phonics.

The boys in your school and your classes face some general & some very specific pressures; from school, family, peers and especially themselves. Great teaching and maybe some different approaches will help boys to connect better with school and their learning.

This course is perfect for Subject Leaders and Heads of Department leading any discipline and is ideal for those new to the role and those just seeking their first middle leadership position. It is a practical course, anchored in the day-to-day reality of running a department and it follows a focused, logical sequence, and is full of real-life learning.  

The course is for all vocational teachers from any subject as well as managers and teachers of English who are interested in developing  approaches to help make sure that the hard work put into  embedding English and maths has  a major impact on learners.

The introduction of statutory health education in September 2020 is a watershed moment; but the hard work has only just begun.  Now we need to ensure we get it right!  This course will help you to fully engage with the process of developing and delivering a health education curriculum that meets the needs of your learners, staff and families.  Whilst it’s impossible to give you all the answers, this course will make sure that you’re asking the right people the right questions and give you some clear direction and starting points to help you get Health Education right in your school. The course has been developed and delivered by Dr Pooky Knightsmith who is an advisor to the PSHE Association and the Department for Education and who has been involved in the development and delivery of PSHE and Health Education in a wide range of schools and local authorities.  This course was inspired by a keynote presentation Pooky originally delivered to colleagues at a Headteacher Update conference which Pooky chaired.

In this course, which is the first of three courses on the subject of effective differentiation, Matt Bromley explores some possible dangers of traditional approaches to differentiation and advocates ‘teaching to the top’ for all pupils.  He explains what this might look like in practice, including through the adoption of a mastery learning model.    

As well as being useful for individual CPD for teachers, this course could form the basis of in-school departmental training.   

This course has been developed by Matt Bromley who has over twenty years’ experience in teaching and leadership including as headteacher, principal and MAT director of education.  He is an experienced teacher of English and successful former head of department.  He is now a school improvement advisor, teacher-trainer and public speaker.  He regularly speaks at national and international conferences, and he is a regular contributor to a number of education magazines including TES and SecEd.  He is the author of a number of books on education including How to Learn and School & College Curriculum Design.
