About this course
Everyone agrees emotional wellbeing matters. Pinning down what it means for a learner with severe or profound disabilities, who can't tell you how they feel, is much harder.
This session gives you a working answer, drawn from a survey that asked people what wellbeing is. It splits into needs you can meet, such as connection, autonomy and the chance to show how you really feel, and feelings you can only watch for. That changes what you do. You stop asking a pupil to smile for the camera, and you wait longer than feels natural: one woman caught on video was laughing at something that had happened 20 seconds earlier in the next room.
You'll also get a way to audit the day you already run for gaps, and to judge progress alongside the family, who usually read a child best.
