About this course

Today's enemy is next week's best friend. So when your teen is fuming about someone, the golden rule is never to join in, however much they seem to invite it. If they make up, you're the one left on the wrong side.

Listen to understand rather than to reply, and don't worry if the same story comes round three times. Ask "what do you hope will happen next?", or if they can't say, "what do you hope doesn't?", and help turn the answer into a next step. Help them work out whether the problem is the situation or how they feel about it, and see it from the other person's side.

Keep in touch over the small stuff, even by text from the next room, so they know where to find you when it matters.
