About this course

Permanent exclusion rarely happens overnight. A pupil gets into trouble, fights the consequence, gets into more trouble, and the cycle repeats until someone rings an alternative provision on a Friday asking for a place on Monday.

You'll learn how to break that cycle sooner. A graduated response for behaviour gives universal support to everyone, targeted help to the 10 to 15% who need more, and a personalised package before exclusion is on the table. A behaviour and wellbeing support team means what worked in Year 7 isn't lost in Year 8. And a simple social and emotional learning matrix, just four statements, can shape your behaviour policy and each pupil's targets for the day.

If a pupil needs alternative provision, bring it in early. Good provision works part time, alongside school, as a partnership rather than a last resort, and this advice comes from someone who founded and runs one.
