About this course
If a class takes 10 minutes to settle, a chunk of the lesson has gone before you've started. Much of what makes teaching hard happens in routine moments like that, and getting them right frees you up to teach.
This full course brings four practical courses together. You'll set up routines for lesson starts, endings and handing out books so learning time isn't lost. You'll see what high expectations look like in practice, including teaching to the top rather than the middle, and how to make better use of teaching assistants. And you'll use the five key strategies of formative assessment, from hinge questions and peer assessment to a red-and-green card that tells you when a pupil is lost.
The ideas draw on research from Dylan Wiliam, Ron Berger and the EEF, and there's advice for anyone taking a GCSE or A level class for the first time.
