Evidence you can use on Monday

There’s a lot of research on how children learn, and not much time to read it. These courses take the ideas that hold up (cognitive load, retrieval practice, metacognition, feedback) and show what they look like in an ordinary lesson.

For every stage

Newer teachers have courses on giving clear instruction and setting high expectations. Experienced teachers have courses on long-term learning, working memory and assessment. Leaders can learn how to build evidence-informed teaching across a school, or take a whole-school approach to metacognition.

In the classroom tomorrow

Not everything here is about memory. There are courses on oracy and purposeful talk, on teaching in a multilingual classroom, on spotting dyscalculia and on getting instant feedback from a class, each with something to try in your next lesson.

Teaching assistants

The Education Endowment Foundation’s guidance on teaching assistants is blunt about it: used well, they help pupils learn, but used as an informal teacher for the lowest attainers, they can hold them back. Our courses for teaching assistants cover supporting learning without doing the work for the child. Teachers and leaders get courses on deploying them well.

Exams and invigilation

There’s also a certificate in invigilating exams, and training for exam staff on oral examinations.

Questions about teaching and learning training

Is this CPD suitable for early career teachers?

Yes. Several courses are written for trainees and teachers in their first years, and they work well alongside an early career framework programme.

Is it based on research?

Yes. The courses draw on cognitive science and on the Education Endowment Foundation’s guidance, explained in plain English with classroom examples.

Is there training for teaching assistants?

Yes, for teaching assistants themselves and for the teachers who work with them.

Do you train exam invigilators?

Yes. There’s a certificate in invigilating exams and a course on oral examinations.
