About this course
Pen tapping and chair swinging rarely look serious on their own, but low-level disruption wears down a lesson, and the teacher trying to hold it together.
Most of it starts in the same places: the first few minutes of a lesson, the last few and the changeovers between tasks. A former headteacher and director of education shows you how to teach routines for each, down to rehearsing how books get handed out until it's automatic. He's just as practical about presence, including where to stand and how to use eye contact, so you can hold the room without shouting.
Harder cases get proper attention too, like motivating pupils who can't see the point of the lesson and keeping expectations high without a stand-off.
