Judith is a teacher, trainer and consultant. Judith teaches part-time, and also delivers a trauma-informed, violence awareness/prevention programme for children aged 2-6 years. The programme, funded by the West Midlands Violence Reduction Unit, supports children growing up in areas with high rates of violent crime.

Suitable for: All staff from education settings working with children 3-8 years

Mary's presentation was shared with mental health leads across Cornwall as part of our work with HeadStart Kernow which is a lottery funded project. We found the session to be valuable and Mary kindly agreed it could be shared more widely.

Medical Conditions Training: Epilepsy

In this course we cover all aspects of Epilepsy – we look at what it is, the most common symptoms you might see and discuss some of the most common types of seizures, including seizures that are not caused by Epilepsy. The different triggers and treatment options are considered as well as Emergency Medication administration (Buccal Midazolam). We use the mnemonic A.C.T.I.O.N to give some advice about what to do when someone is having an Epileptic Seizure. Finally we discuss some of the rare complications linked to Epilepsy and think about the impact of Epilepsy on a child.

Understanding the Role of the DSL

Every school and college in England must have a Designated Safeguarding Lead. All staff, volunteers and those working on behalf of the school should be aware of who this is, understand the role of the Designated Safeguarding Lead and know how their role works alongside the DSL to keep children safe. In this course we will explore this important role in more detail, look at how the DSL works to keep children safe, what their responsibilities are and how they work with other agencies. We will also look at the safeguarding responsibilities of every member of staff so that you can feel confident in what to do if you are concerned about a child.
