During this course we look at the important role of school office and admin staff and how we can develop skills and strategies to help us enjoy the job and make a big difference to those we work with every day.

This is an introductory course for all staff and volunteers working with children in schools and colleges. This course will explore where mental health problems in young people might indicate that they are being abused or harmed. We will consider what abuse is, how children experiencing mental health issues may be more vulnerable to abuse and consider mental health as an indicator of harm. You will also learn what to do if you are concerned about the mental health or wellbeing of a child in your school. 

This course has been designed specifically for parents and caregivers who’d like to gain inspiration for optimising playful opportunities with their children.  You will learn practical ideas for supporting your child’s curiosity and playfulness; helping you to cultivate play even in the most mundane of moments.

This course will consider why attendance is important, look at the risks that children face when they miss education and we will learn about school and local authority responsibilities to these children. We will also learn about factors that might cause a child to miss education and finally, what to do if you are worried about a child missing education.  

Self regulation problems are seen when children experience meltdowns or behaviour tantrums at an age that exceeds the toddler stage of development. It is both acceptable and customary for toddlers to struggle to contain their emotions but this is a skill they master as they mature. During this course Cherryl will provide ten strategies and top tips that will help in the classroom. As everyone knows it is normal for toddlers to struggle to contain their emotions but this is a skill they master as they mature. During this course Cherryl will explore the nature of these self regulation problems and she will also discuss what the causes might be. During this practical short course, Pooky will walk you through a range of simple ideas to help you to build a positive relationship with your child’s school.  None of these ideas require any existing knowledge or experience and they are all designed to feel easily doable.  You don’t have to do them all; pick one or two and see how you get on. This is one of a series of webinars commissioned by Resilient Rutland who are funded by the National Lottery.

This course, for all levels of professionals including those new to education and parents and carers aims to develop knowledge and confidence of how to use stories to boost all learner’s resilience and mental health, linked to importance of this for all learners, including those with SEND and more complex needs. Research indicates a link between the development of personal resilience and storytelling, this course will provide clarity, understanding and strategies to use in the school and home environment. Practical ideas, advice and ways forward are provided to make a difference now.

This course is tailored towards parents and guardians with a child who may have already received a diagnosis of Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) or who may be suspecting this to be the case. This video will also be useful for parents and guardians experiencing some challenges around defiant behaviours.

The boys in your school and your classes face some general & some very specific pressures; from school, family, peers and especially themselves. Great teaching and maybe some different approaches will help boys to connect better with school and their learning.

Teachers need to know and understand how to assess pupils in their subjects, including the statutory assessment requirements.  They need to make use of formative and summative assessment to secure pupils’ progress, and use relevant data to monitor progress, set targets, and plan subsequent lessons.  Teachers also need to give pupils regular feedback, both orally and through accurate marking, and encourage pupils to respond to the feedback.  In this course, Matt Bromley explores the central tenets of effective assessment, marking and feedback.

Grief is inclusive - but is grief support inclusive? Are the emotional needs of all children being met? All humans experience grief, regardless of their age or abilities. Sadly, the needs of bereaved and grieving children with SEND are often overlooked and when children have limited verbal communication skills this tends to result in their grief being totally neglected. This course looks at: what grief is (it’s about much more than death), how to identify grief in children with PMLD, how these children express their grief and crucially how we can support bereaved and grieving children with PMLD.
